Built by Italian architect Antonio Rinaldi, Gatchina palace became the favorite residence of the Empress Catherine the Great's only son Pavel. After his death the palace and parks were used for temporary accommodation of royal family members during more than 200 years. Now it is a museum with restored facades and interiors and with some special features such as secret underground passage.
