Founded in the end of 9th century, the military fortress of Old Ladoga was defending the borders from Swedish troops. First fortress was built wooden, then it had been destroyed and rebuilt in stone in 15th century. Nowadays it is a historical museum. Now visitors can see two towers and a part of the wall. From the other three towers only the bases have been preserved. Inside the fortress the ancient Cathedral of Saint George is located. It is famous for its frescos of 12th century.
